You won’t be aware of it when watching the display, but the many projectors and lasers are hidden inside fake rocks, bushes and signs around Central Plaza that open up just before the show. Added projectors are located in the roofs of Main Street USA to achieve the Fantasia “broomstick multiplication” scene for example and all lasers are used to create the outline of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
2 extra laser heads can be found on the highest balcony of the castle too, these cover the sky over Central Plaza during and after the finale.
The new display underwent many tests before being performed for guests. Months before the show, effects were tested, added and in one case removed because the power of an explosion set fire to a plant on the castle.
In the middle of Central Plaza, a new Wishes sign/statue was built to celebrate the new show, it also houses some extra surprises! Around 30 Castmembers were directly involved in the production of the Paris show; the team worked for over a year to create it.
The original version of Wishes premiered in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in October 2003
Florida’s version uses around 800 shells per show with pyrotechnics launched from 10 new locations around the Magic Kingdom
It is thought that the Magic Kingdom spend around $60 000 a night on the display, that’s 10 times more than Disneyland Resort Paris’s previous display.
The music director was Steve Skorija who works for Walt Disney Entertainment. He oversees the music production for live entertainment and special events at
Walt Disney World Resort, but Paris’s version was mixed in “Le Studio” by his counterpart, Vasile Sirli.
The Wishes score was composed and arranged by Gregory Smith, the guy behind such Walt Disney World productions as "IllumiNations 25" and "Splashtacular" at Epcot, and the "Mickey Mania" parade at Magic Kingdom. This music has been edited for the Paris version, with the Blue Fairy speaking French.
Steven Davison (of Walt Disney Creative Entertainment) headed the project in Florida although there is no word on whether he is having input into the Paris show.
"The goal of the show is to move guests in a very special way, to fill them with a magic only Disney can create and, most of all, to give everyone a magical memory to treasure for a lifetime." - Steven Davison
